US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Havenier delivered a speech at the Peace and Democracy Summit, stressing that the United States does not have the absolute power to make Kosovo immediately a member of the European Union and NATO. He stressed that it is essential that Kosovo and Serbian governments respect the obligations of dialogue and seriously engage in this process.
Havenier stressed that the world does not function with magic sticks and that integration into international institutions requires co-ordination with member states. He called on Kosovo to convince those countries that have not yet accepted its independence.
To illustrate the approach, the ambassador used a saying by his grandfather: “if you want to go to a club, don't urinate in front of his door”, stressing the importance of respect and cooperation in integration efforts. Havenier said the US is committed to supporting Kosovo in this process.
Lutfi Haziri of the LDK has commented on the message of Ambassador Havenier.
He stressed that there is nothing to add to the dialogue except Ambassador Havenier's statement, saying that “this government has pissed at the door of friends and partners.”
I have nothing to add except to Havener's saying: “This government has pissed at the door of friend and partners”.
