On the 34th anniversary of the Constitution of the First Republic of Kosovo, known as the Cabaknik Constitution, today 7 September, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, the first president of Kosovo (May 24th), and the first president of Kosovo released (4 February 2002).
The beginning of the last decade of the past century was heavy and difficult but: Dr. Gazmend Zaymi was at the head of drafting the constitution for self-rule. Anton Cetta led the reconciliation of things between Albanians; Adem Demach returned to his people after a total of 28 years in prisons; Dr. Ibrahim Rugova led the alternative for independence with a peaceful resistance; Dr. Ejup Statovci was at the head of the University of Pristina's recovery; Ukshin Hoti organised folk demonstrations and wrote for authentic democracy; Academyist Rexhep Qosja dominated historical debates and inspired patriotic youth; etc. And early in that decade, after returning from military exercises in Albania, Adem Jashari, Zahir Pajaziti and Sali Cekaj organized armed groups towards forming the KLA.
The social stability that preceded active student protests and the glorious liberation war required intellectual engagement and civic contribution, national devotion and cultural level, political awareness and international affirmation. With a calm and calm word, with continued and patient work, President Rugova represented his policies in Kosovo and abroad, for freedom, for democracy and for independence.
