Prime Minister Albin Kurti will be speaker at an event organised by European Policy Center in Brussels on the “Kosovo and the EU: Current dynamics and prospects”.
The event will be held on Thursday 19 September, and on the same day in Brussels European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leeyen will wait for a luncheon of all leaders of six Western Balkan countries. According to all odds Kurti will represent Kosovo at the table with Von der Lyen, but this has not been officially confirmed.
The main objective of this meeting is the discussion of <x0 reform and growth”, which nearly all the countries of the Western Balkan region have handed over to the European Commission as preconditions to accept the first payments from the Western Balkans Growth Plan approved by the EU in May of this year.
On Von Der Leyen's agenda, the meeting has only been confirmed, while it has not been discovered who representatives of the invited states will be.
European Police Center in the report said that Kurti would talk to Kosovo's EU application, obstacles on its path towards integration, as well as government plans to overcome them.
“in January 2024, the EU lifted visa requirements for Kosovo citizens a long-awaited and delayed decision marking an important step forward in Kosovo's connection with the EU. Kosovo has undertaken major reforms and, in line with the promised future within the European Union as potential candidates, has applied for EU membership in 2022. However, the European Commission has not provided an opinion on Kosovo's application. Where does Kosovo stand in terms of implementing EU-related reforms? What are the main obstacles on Kosovo's road to the EU, and how does the government plan to overcome them? At this meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the current dynamics and prospects for Kosovo's deeper and broader engagement with the European Union will be discussed.
