KDI Director Ismet Kryeziu has condemned the Kosovo Police's move to arrest Serbian politician Aleksandar Arsenijevic, only because he whistled on Prime Minister Albin Kurti's visit to the north.
He has estimated that this constitutes violation of the right to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly.
In his account in “Facebook”, Kryeziu wrote that these rights are guaranteed by the Constitution.
Serbian politician Aleksandar Arsenijevic's arrest of a whistle at the prime minister's visit and two ministers to the north, I believe constitutes violation of the right to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful rally. Rights which are guaranteed not only by local laws but also by international conventions. Minister Krasniqi and Svecla's frequent visits to northern municipalities are strengthening their responsibilities for local governance, rule of rule and law and are reducing Kosovo to four municipalities. A more balanced approach to demonstrating authority is needed to ensure a stable democracy supporting all citizens, regardless of ethnic or regional affiliation”, Kryeziu wrote.
According to him, these actions undermine Kosovo institutions.
“The integration of Serbian citizens and respect of their rights is a fundamental obligation and value guaranteeing the functioning of democracy in Kosovo. Every violation of their civil rights, as well as of each citizen of Kosovo indiscriminately, undermines democratic institutions and undermines the values of the Republic of Kosovo.” has written Kryeziu.
