The Israeli Army said it carried out an attack Sunday on Hamas militants who had taken refuge in school and accused them of endangering civilians.
Civil Protection, which operates under the government run by Hamas the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisations by the US and the EU, confirmed the number of victims. It did not tell them whether those killed were warriors or civilians.
The school is located in Chatti, a refugee camp built in Gaza City dating back to the 1948 war. Israeli forces have undergone repeated attacks there during the nearly one year war with Hamas.
Gaza Schools were closed after Hamas' attack on October 7th on Israel, which sparked the war, and most of them have turned into shelter. Some 90 percent of Gaza's population of 2.3 million has moved.
Israel says it only aims at militants and tries to avoid harming civilians, but rarely comments on specific attacks, which often kill women and children.
The war began when Hamas - led fighters killed about 1,200 people, mainly civilians, in an October 7 attack in southern Israel. They kidnapped about 250 people and still hold about 100 hostage. Israel's campaign in Gaza has killed at least 41,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which makes no distinction in numbers between fighters and civilians.
Also Saturday, the Gaza Health Ministry said five of its employees were killed and five others were injured by Israeli fire that hit the ministry's warehouses in the Musbah area in the south. /Radio Europe Free
