The US envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina during former President Donald Trump's administration, Richard Green, has said Serbia's future is near the United States, and not near China and Russia, reports the Voice of America.
He believes there is a genuine friendship between the US and Serbia, regardless of who is in power.
I regularly speak with [Serbia President Aleksandar] Vuciq and tell him that he has to secede from Russia and China and draw close to the West and the US. As an American, I often give such advice and do not hesitate to promote Western values”, Yerenelli said.
Green was among the guests waiting for “Serbia beyond the future”, which Serbia's Permanent Mission to the UN organised in New York.
Former administration official Trump has remained close to representatives of power in Serbia even after leaving office.
Serbia's president handed him a state decoration in October 2023, and on that occasion praised that Grenelli's role in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina “not only has contributed to regional peace and stability, but also played a key role in strengthening ties between the US and Serbia”.
In the question of the current situation in Kosovo, the former official, who is still active in Donald Trump's campaign, criticised the administration of the current US President Joe Biden.
I am very disappointed that all the good work President Trump has done in the region has been dismissed”, he said.
According to the Voice of America report, because of the intervention by Serbia's president's press service, Grenelli did not answer this medium's question of investing Trump's groom, Jared Kouchner, in the former General Staff building in Belgrade.
Serbia has signed a contract with Kouchner's firm for “revising” of the General Staff complex in downtown Belgrade, which was partially destroyed during the 1999 NATO bombing.
Former administration official Trump has often spoken publicly with praise for the Trump groom's project in Belgrade.
Grenelli, among other things, estimated that the former General Staff building in Belgrade, which is a symbol of conflict, could become a friendship bridge between Serbia and the US.
At the site of ruins from the bombing, construction of two tall apartment buildings and hotels, though built between 1955 and 1965, has not been removed. / REL/
