Germany Places Controls at Border Points

Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Fyser announced on Monday that the country will extend temporary controls to all German earthly borders in what it describes as a response to irregular migration and to protect the country from extremist threats. The Interior Ministry said it informed Brussels of the order to deploy border controls on land borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark for a period of six months, the Associated Press reported.
The raids will begin on 16 September and will come as additional restrictions already imposed on Germany's land borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland.
Faeser said: “We are strengthening our internal security through concrete actions and we are continuing our tough stance against irregular migration.”, Faezer said.
It has added, that “until we achieve strong protection of EU external borders with the new European Common System of Asylum, we must increase even more controls on our national borders. ”
The move comes after a deadly knife attack on Soligen when an Islamic extremist killed three people last month and after police in Munich exchanged fire with an armed man near the Israeli consulate last week.
These measures come amid growing political pressure on the German coalition government, as the White Extrem Alternative for Germany won state elections in Turingi this month.
