European Commission Chairman on 19 September Meets Western Balkan Leaders

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen has invited leaders of Western Balkan states to a working lunch where the first payments from the Development Plan will be discussed by the region. It is the largest financial package the EU has ever shared for Balkan states [...]

It is the largest financial package the EU has ever shared for the states of the Western Balkans. The 6 billion-euro package is aimed at doubling the economies of countries in the region within a decade.

The first instalments must be paid during the fall, while states were obliged to hand over reform agenda to Brussels as preconditions for receiving financial means. Exactly the content of these agendas will be the empty subject of discussions that Von der Leyeen will hold with regional leaders.

Kosovo on this level was the first state to hand over the document to the European Commission.

Only Bosnia and Herzegovina has not delivered the agenda and has thus exempted itself from accepting the first part of the financial means.

Apart from the necessary reforms that are common to all 6 Western Balkan countries, Kosovo and Serbia have an additional condition to take advantage of the financial package, which concerns the constructive approach of the parties in the dialogue process.

According to the specified calendar, this working lunch should be held after a new round of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia at the level of chief negotiators.

This meeting was scheduled for September 17th, two days before leaders arrived.

Faithful Bislimi from Pristina as well as Petar Petkov from Belgrade have confirmed coming to Brussels on Tuesday.

But maintaining the joint meeting of the perpetrators remains uncertain since the parties disagreed on the agenda of discussions.
