Begaj: Kosovo membership in Adriatic Charter brings security to region

In his speech, Begaj stressed that the world is found in bloody conflicts such as it is in Ukraine and the Middle East, which, according to him, “requires a united approach and a common commitment to address them in an efficient and sustainable manner”.

“Ukrainian faces an unprecedented illegal aggression from Russia. Albania has supported and will continue to support Ukraine in co-operation with strategic allies. In the Middle East, we have a year of escalating conflict, creating a hot hearth there. These major issues require a united approach and a common commitment to addressing them in an efficient and sustainable way”, Begaj stressed.

Begaj noted that the Western Balkans face challenges in the area of security, where, according to him, the fragile region towards “internal and external influences that could destabilise the peace and stability reached”.

Our “region, the Western Balkans, faces specific challenges, especially in the areas of security. Our region remains vulnerable to internal and external influences that could destabilise the achieved peace and stability. Tensions created, intervention by third actors, and cyber security threats require deepening co-operation among ourselves and our partners. History should not be forgotten, otherwise we risk repeating our mistakes”, Begaj said.

He noted that Albanians are a constructive factor in the region that has contributed to peace and security. That way, according to Begaj, Kosovo should join the Adriatic Charter, strengthening not only its security but also the entire Balkan region.

“Albania will play a key role in preserving peace and stability. The region's Albanians are a constructive and moderate factor by contributing to peace, security and stability. They have proved to be supporters of our region's European and Euro-Atlantic future. In co-operation with our allies, we have constantly worked to convey security in the region and promote the integration of the Western Balkans into the Euro-Atlantic structure. It is important to include new members who want to join the US Adriatic Charter and NATO initiative. Kosovo's membership in this charter is essential not only for Kosovo's security but also for the stability of the entire region. Kosovo has shown commitment to peace and represents a contributing factor for the security of the Western Balkans”, President Begaj said further in his address.
