During his conversation with General Cavolin, the president of the Republic conveyed to the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe gratitude for the work done as SACEUR in collective defence, as well as for boosting regional co-operation and facing new challenges aimed at preserving peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic area and the international arena.

President Begaj praised the construction of necessary capacities and the development of the Albanian Armed Forces, increased co-operation with NATO allies based on joint commitments and our country's vision to boost transatlantic security and strengthen stability in the Western Balkans.

In the quality of Commander General of the Armed Forces, President Bajram Begaj highlighted Albania's ambitions to revive the defence industry, initiatives and undertaken investments, as well as offering Porto Romano as NATO base.

During the meeting, it was talked about strengthening the strategic partnership, at a time which President Begaj considered to be the unprecedented <x0->s for security”, referring to Russian aggression in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East.

“These conflicts have their negative impact even in the Western Balkans, a region of strategic importance for the Alliance”, said President Begaj, who stressed that Albania is committed to meeting the obligations of Armed Forces for the National Defence Plan, the regional peace, security and stability, and collective protection in line with the NATO Force model.

A special gratitude to President Begaj conveyed to the work carried out by KFOR in Kosovo, simultaneously expressing support for this security mission in Kosovo and the role as guarantor for peace and stability in the region.
