The international news agency Reuters has reported on the arrest of Kosovo citizens Liridon Rexhepi from the Turkish intelligence agency in Istanbul.
Turkey arrested a Kosovo citizen accused of managing the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad's financial network in the country, the Turkish intelligence agency said on Tuesday.
Reuters writes that Liridon Rexhepi was arrested in Istanbul on August 30th for transferring funds to Mossad personnel operating in Turkey, according to the Turkish intelligence agency, MlT.
Turkey, which has denounced Israel for fighting Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, has arrested more than 20 people suspected of links to Mossad this year. The news was also reported in Israel. Media like The Jerusalem Post have written about the arrest.
Rexhepi was under surveillance since his entry into Turkey on 25 August, MlT's statement said. He allegedly facilitated financial transfers from Eastern European countries, mainly Kosovo, to the Mossad agents in Turkey.
The statement said that funds transferred by Rexhepi have been used for intelligence collection in Syria, conducting psychological operations against Palestinians and co-ordinating fears-related operations.
Rexhepi used money transfer services to transfer funds to Turkey. There, funds were distributed to field operatives who, on the other hand, channeled part of the money in assets in Syria, often using cryptovaluta for these transactions, sources said.
