Ambassador Sweden: The bridge needs to open, the question is when and how at this moment there's no time for discussion

Swedish Ambassador to Kosovo Jonas Westerlund has said that the EU's focus is on Russian aggression against Ukraine, while there is no time for discussions about the Ibri Bridge at this moment. Although it has said that the Bridge must be opened, Westerlund has used an old Greek word, “kairos” -- meaning that a decision should be made at the right moment, to maximize the result.
According to the ambassador, questions about when and how the bridge should be opened belong to the population on both sides of the river, jointly in consultations with the international community.
He has added that he does not want to speculate whether the government's recent decisions are being made on the eve of elections, while he has requested better co-ordination with the international community.
The Greek word “is a word, kairosʹ, which means you have to make a decision at the right time to get the best possible results. I don't think we have CHAhiros right now. The bridge needs to be opened, I think we all agree on that, the question is when and how. In my view, it should be in line with public consultations on both sides of the river and the international community. This is a symbolic problem, in reality there are many other open bridges where pedestrian cars can circulate in Iber”.
I don't want to speculate (that these actions are taking place because we're on the verge of elections). We would appreciate it if some of these issues were discussed with the international community before problems arose. This is highlighted in some cases between the international community and Prime Minister Kurti”.
Wusterland, for warnings from EU spokesman Peter Stano, that sanctions against Kosovo can be fairised, has said there is nothing to add, but that the large “photo” should be seen where Kosovo is part of Europe, whose security is at stake.
He has stressed that the EU's focus is on the Russia-Ukrainian war, as Kosovo, Sweden and all European countries should focus.
“I have followed the EU spokesman's statements on the matter. I have nothing to add. But, as I always say, we need to see the big victim. Kosovo is part of Europe. Both countries, both Kosovo and Sweden, are small states and we need to understand what is happening in Europe now with Russian aggression over Ukraine. It is time to focus on it and how Kosovo, Sweden and other allies can help Ukraine from Russia, which is also jeopardising European security. So here's where the focus should be and there's no time for discussion about the bridge right now. We need to discuss dialogue and normalisation of relations, and we need to discuss how we can help Ukraine”, he said, for Online Economy.
On the other hand, he has said the country should also focus on economic development and deepening co-operation with Sweden, which has several of its companies operating in Kosovo and some other interested ones.
Any democratic state, like Kosovo, should focus on economic development. The prime minister has said some indicators that Kosovo is moving ahead with the economy. I think you should focus on where you can have influence, such as deepening co-operation in economic relations between Kosovo and Sweden”.
There are several Swedish companies that have come to Kosovo. A huge sum even, recently, that has started its business here is Sigma, this year. We also have the Swedish telecom company Erickson that established a research and development center. There are also many technology companies, and those that deal with artificial intelligence, interested in Sweden. So, of course, we should focus on increasing trade among our countries”, the Ambassador said.
