Albin Kurti, Kosovo prime minister, is standing in the United States of America, where he has participated in the Democratic Party Convention on the case of Kamala Harris' formalisation as presidential candidate for the November elections this year.
The event, which is part of the 2024 International Leaderial Forum, was organised by National Democracy Institute (NDI), an organisation that supports the development of democracy on a global level.
In a statement by the Prime Minister's Office, it stresses that Kurti's participation in the panel was described as an opportunity to discuss the political parties' role in international democratic processes.
In an interview for Voice of America, Kurti has named Donald Trump, the Republican Party's candidate for president of the United States, an unusual candidate.
Opposition MP Xhavit Haliti, who is once also a member of the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs, has commented on Prime Minister Albin Kurti's participation in the US National Democratic Convention, naming it a move that may matter, but needs more information to assess its impact.
Haliti for Front Online has indicated it is important to know whether Kurti was invited as party chairman or as prime minister. “If the invitation was made in his quality as party chairman, Haliti said it is important to know who has covered the turnout costs. If the invitation was as prime minister, then, according to him, it is a good achievement for him, stressing that an invitation to such an event is an important recognition”, Haliti stressed.
As far as Kurt's participation in American politics is concerned, Haliti stressed that this will have no direct effect, despite the presidential election winner. According to him, American politics functions in line with US interests and strategic goals and is not influenced by the participation of foreign leaders in party events. Haliti concluded that it is important that Kosovo focus on building strategic relations and not supporting itself in helping any party or individual designated in the US. “They don't make neighborhood policy, but they do strategic policy, they have their own interests and they have their own goals, they don't work according to neighborhoods “, Haliti said.
