Former Serbian Progressive Party official Dragan Shormaz has declared the attack on Banjsk was organised by Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq. According to him, Vuciq was unaware that the action would result in the killing of a police officer and did not expect events to take place in the tragic way that happened. He added that Western partners are informed of this.
“Everything was organised by Aleksandar Vuciq with the thought that it would end successfully, but ended tragically, with four dead, and without success for the secession of four municipalities in northern Kosovo”, Shormaz said.
Speaking at a conference on Russia's role in destabilizing Kosovo and the region, Shortmaz stressed that the Republic of Kosovo has fully established its sovereignty in the country's north. According to him, Russia is helping Vuciqi hide this reality from citizens of Serbia. He added that by next spring, the Association of Communities with the Serb Majority will be formed, and Serbia will face demand to sign a legally binding agreement, which would imply de facto recognition of Kosovo.
At the conference, politicians and intellectuals estimated that the Mitrovica bridge issue is being instrumentalised and geopolitically abused by Russia and that it should be opened. As the Kosovo issue was concluded according to them.
The Barricades on the bridge are a form of ghettoization for a part of the population. The bridge is open to pedestrians and riders, so barricades on the bridge have more psychological influence than security, which Russia is exploiting”, said Cedomir Stojkovic, a lawyer.
Kosovo's “independence was won at Milosevic's loss. Kosovo was lost because of the 10,000 Albanians killed. Serbia must face the truth. Participants estimated that it is time to resolve the frozen conflicts in the region, which do not benefit any citizen”, said Ivan Videnovic, a university professor. / RTK
