(2 years ago)German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Monday he wants to boost the deportations of illegal immigrants, days after a knife attack in the western town of Solingen. “Deportations must be accelerated, with legal regulations if necessary,” said Scholz during a visit to Solingen. The Chancellor also called for the stable and practical “implementation of existing laws, including those for migrants applying for asylum in Germany, rather than the first European Union place where they arrive in opposition to Dublin's Order.

Three people were killed and eight others were injured in last Friday's attack on a square in the city centre of Solingen.
The 26-year-old suspect, who is originally from Syria, was taken into custody at the court's order, reports German DPA agency.
The attacker, who is allegedly a member of the Islamic State terrorist group, was reportedly scheduled to be deported to Bulgaria after arriving in Germany in 2022, but police failed to locate it.
