The public official at the Ministry of Justice, Peter Shala, is involved in the first national programme for perpetrators of violence against women, a role that has caused serious concerns.
This programme, launched by the Ministry of Justice in November last year, aims to rehabilitate perpetrators of violence against women. However, Peter Shala, who was convicted of violence against his wife in 2022, should not be part of this program.
In 2022, Shala was found guilty of assaulting his wife and sentenced to fine by the Constitutional Court in Pec. According to the conviction on June 28, 2022, he has pleaded guilty to the criminal offence of the attack on his wife. This act has been confirmed with the decision of a formal form in September of that same year.
However, Peter Shala has engaged in piloting this programme, which ended on July 29th of this year. At the closing ceremony of the programme, Shala has appeared at the side of Minister Haxhiu, as she had in launching the programme.
Minister Haxhiu has declared that the programme is aimed at meeting the perpetrators with the consequences of their actions and developing healthy communication capabilities and respect in interpersonial relations.
The commitment of a person convicted of violence in a program that deals with the same problems has sparked serious concerns.
Shala has been convicted of physically attacking his wife, who has reported continued violence on his part.
In a statement to the police, she has indicated that Shala has exercised physical and mental violence against her, including repeated physical attacks and threats. According to her, Shala has tried not to report the violence to the police, asking her to leave the house.
Despite these accusations and his conviction, Shala has been appointed part of the programme for rehabilitation of perpetrators of violence against women.
