Poland's military said 26 August that the airspace of this NATO state has been violated, possibly by a threat, following the deadly air strikes carried out by Russia against Ukraine.
More than 100 rockets and about 100 drones were launched from Russia against Ukraine, including in western Ukrainian regions, killing at least four people and targeting the energy system.
During the attacks, Poland's airspace was violated by an object that entered from Ukraine, the Polish Army general said.
We may be facing the entrance of an object on Polish territory. This facility has been confirmed by at least three tracking stations through radio ranges”, Polish Army General Macey Klisz said.
It is clear that the characteristics of this object imply that it is not rockets, nor hypersonic, ballistics, nor floating rocket”, Klitz added.
The Polish Army said it is conducting research on what “is likely to be feared” about 30 km from the Ukrainian border, within Poland's territory.
“There has been high readiness for the neutralisation of this” facility, said Army spokesman Jacek Goryszewski.
Earlier Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on European states to help his state bring down drones and rockets on Ukraine.
In March, Poland had reported on violations of its airspace by a Russian cruise missile and had sought an explanation from Moscow for the case.
A similar incident had occurred on December 29, 2023, when a Russian missile entered Polish airspace for a few minutes before returning to Ukraine.
In November 2022, two people were killed when a Ukrainian antiaircraft rocket fell into a Polish village near the Ukrainian border. /rel
