OSCE chief in Kosovo reacts to closing Serbian mail in the north: Aptitude to return sides to dialogue

The head of the Kosovo Mission for Security and Co-operation Organisation in Europe (OSBE), Michael Davenport, has praised as <x1-> emergency” the return of the parties to the facilitated dialogue by the European Union for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

The latest “images of closing office in northern municipalities and renewed proposals for opening the bridge in Mitrovica/Mitrovica for traffic have highlighted the urgency of returning to dialogue. Both issues must be resolved in the EU-led process”, Davenport written in “X”.

But this should be the once more focused dialogue on improving the lives of ordinary people in Kosovo and increasing the perspective for young people from all communities to live, work and raise their families here”, he further says.

To close Serbia's Post points in the north, other missions in Kosovo have also reacted, as have the European Union of the United States.

Disillusionment to the Government of Kosovo has voiced the US in a response Monday over the closure of Serbia's Post Office branches in northern Kosovo.

The U.S. has called these decisions unilateral and uncoordinated.

The US government is deeply disappointed by the one-sided and uncoordinated actions of the Government of Kosovo against Serbian postal filters in northern Kosovo. Kosovo's uncoordinated actions put Kosovo citizens and KFOR soldiers in greater danger, unnecessarily escalate regional tensions and undermine Kosovo's reputation as reliable international partner”, the US Embassy's communique in Kosovo said.

The US has now called on the Government of Kosovo to discontinue further actions “unilaterally and to return constructive engagements in the EU-attensive dialogue to resolve issues dealing with normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia”.

The European Union has also considered this decision unilateral and uncoordinated. According to the EU, such an action violates dialogue between the two countries, which is mediated by the European Union.

The unilateral and uncoordinated actions cannot provide solutions to this and other issues, belonging to the normalisation process between Kosovo and Serbia. The closure of existing services for Kosovo Serbs, without a previously reached agreement, will negatively affect the dailyity and living conditions of this community”, the European bloc has said through a statement.

The EU has called on the Kosovo government to reconsider this decision and find a negotiated solution within the dialogue.

Kosovo police have said Monday they have closed several branches of Serbia's Post in northern Mitrovica.
