Kurti shortly before elections opens the topic for whiteening the fate of missing people requires opening archives from Serbia

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called for the opening of archives by the Serbian state for all crimes committed in Kosovo. This request, the first of the government, was repeated at the table on behalf of the International Day of Missing Persons, held today. On the other hand, the prime minister announced that this week, after many efforts and commitments, have started preparations for excavations at the Kozle site between Novi Pazar and Tutin in Serbia.

“This year has been 25 years since the end of the war in Kosovo, with epilogues freeing our country and our people from conquering Serbia. During 98-99, Serbia's state-led police forces committed hundreds of massacres and thousands of violent disappearances over Kosovo Albanians under the genocide project for the extermination of our people. “There is no corpse, there is no crime”, it was Serbia's state strategy for hiding crimes committed against Albanians in Kosovo. This strategy continues to be implemented today by Milosevic's political heirs in Belgrade. This week, after many efforts and commitments by our government commission, have begun preparations for excavations at the Cozhle site between Novi Pazar and Tutini in Serbia, hopefully this is not a new effort by the Serbian state to avoid the excavations agenda of other locations marked through Serbia. So far, the Serbian state has shared data from their archives for this location. So we even today repeat our demand for opening archives in Serbia. Under the agreement reached on May 2nd 2023 in Brussels, we have already submitted several official requests for the opening of the Yugoslav Army's 37 motorised brigade archive responsible for many massacres in Kosovo, especially in the Drenica region. Today, as if every other day, as a government, we refocus our pledge not to assume that you sought justice for war crimes and the truth of 1595 people who had disappeared violently during the war”, Kurti said.

Among other things, the government's first said Serb criminals must face justice and that Kosovo will not stop until the fate and whereabouts of the missing are white.

With our commitment, we are continuing our work by prioritizing the lighting and location of the missing. We've established the War Crimes Investigation Directorate with 41 investigators. We need justice for the executions to be placed behind bars. For that, we need international support and national mobilization. Serbian criminals must face justice because these are forgotten and not pardoned. Kosovo is now a member of the International Commission for Missing Persons. Our capacity, professional institutions are increasingly in the service of peace and confrontation with the past. The government is committed to handling any information that contributes to resolving missing persons cases. Families of the missing are also high between priorities and care for government. By honoring the sacrifice that enabled us to enjoy freedom and state, we are moving forward in the way of righteousness and equality. On the eve of the International Day of Missing Persons, we honor all missing people with violence during the war. Kosovo will not stop until dawns, until their fate and location are known, through enlightenment of truth, lasting peace can be achieved in the region”, Kurti said.
