To reason on the decision to open the bridge for vehicle flow, the Government and the Northern Mitrovica municipality organised public debate, but the invitation was responded to very few citizens.
Some Serbian citizens expressed concern that opening the bridge over the Iber River could increase interethnic tensions.
During the debate, representatives of the Government of Kosovo and Police offered security guarantees in the event of the opening of the bridge for traffic target being rejected by local Serbs and the international community.
A few hours later, the peacekeeping mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR has exposed the Government of Kosovo in connection with testing the bridge over the Iber River.
KFOR has declared that the technical inspection of the Iber River bridge in Mitrovica has not been in co-ordination with them.
“We are aware of reports that the technical inspection of the Iber River bridge in Mitrovica has been co-ordinated with the NATO-led KFOR mission. This isn't true”, KFOR spokesman said.
Our August 6, 2024 statement was clear: KFOR Commander Major General Ozkan Ulutasch was notified by the Kosovo Police Director on the day of initial inspection, just hours before he started”, He said about Clan.
We remember that the European Union said yesterday that it hopes Kosovo will hear the message of the bloc and other international partners in terms of recent decisions, described as unilateral and uncoordinated.
EU spokesman Peter Stano said the bloc has made clear the position regarding the closure of nine Serbian Post branches in Kosovo by authorities, but also the Kosovo Government's intention to open for traffic bridge over the Iber River.
