Not all parties participated yesterday in the meeting called by the country's president, Vjosa Osmani. Political party leaders in Kosovo gathered to discuss the date of parliamentary elections.
Present at the meeting was not the leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti and the Serbian List.
After meeting with President Osmani, opposition leaders have been declared, who have proposed the same date for holding parliamentary elections.
Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi has indicated that at the meeting with President Osmani has proposed January 26th of 2025 as an opinion date for holding regular national elections in Kosovo.
Krasniqi has written through a post on the social network on Facebook that there is no need for fair elections to be unwarranted.
“therefore the first valid date should be the date when we should go to the elections. The PDK has been, is and will be ready for elections on any date. Kosovo and our citizens need a new government, responsible, creditable and capable, which has the knowledge and courage to restore the country to the proper course of development and European integration”, Krasniqi has said.
And the head of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has issued a statement after consulting with President Vjosa Osmani for setting the date of regular elections.
He said the meeting took place under consultations launched on 26 July, where 13 parties represented in the Kosovo Parliament are involved.
Abdixhiku expressed concern that efforts to dismantle the Assembly and avoid government responsibility are unnecessary and harmful, especially at this critical moment for the country.
The Vetevendosje Movement and the Serbian List did not attend the meeting.
In line with the constitutional deadlines, Obadiah proposed January 26th 2025 as the most suitable date for the upcoming elections, stressing the importance of creating a new government that will prevent the state's debacle and restore pro-Western orientation, and focus on civil development and welfare.
The elections for LDK are always a party! As a manifestation of democracy and a return to citizenship, they come at a critical moment for the country and the coming generations. Therefore, uniting the right today is a call for salvation!”, Obadiah said.
Regarding meeting with President Osmani has also written Alliance for the Future of Kosovo leader Ramush Haradinaj.
He has said he hopes Osman will ignore parliamentary parties' request to hold elections on January 26th.
He said this date represents the first option in line with the legal deadlines for organising the elections.
Alternatives Chairman Mimoza Kusari- Lila wrote on Facebook for the meeting held with the president, Vjosa Osmani, where she discussed the date of regular parliamentary elections in the country.
Kusari- Lila has said she disagrees with the opposition for the elections to be held on January 26th. It has proposed two more dates, 9 February and 16 February.
The Vetevendosje Movement has not liked opposition parties' proposals for the elections to be held on January 26th. Dejona Mihali Co-ordinator of this party Committees said the opposition wants the election campaign to begin on December 24th, a day before Christmas.
According to her, opposition party leaders have long analysed and come up with the conclusion that the best campaign is for the new year's holidays.
Interesting what opposition. They are wanting to launch election campaigns on December 24th.
One day before Christmas. Two weeks before the new year's campaign. And January 26th elections. Many experts and professors inside and outside of current heads have probably analyzed the subject. And they have come to the conclusion that the best campaign is for a new year's vacation.
This is exactly one of those topics that Vlora Citaku and Hykmete Bajrami would best tell. However, Ramush Haradinaj also has this, and AAK has that when they have to say things that are all red with shame”, Michael wrote on Facebook.
Under the deadline set with legislation in force, Kosovo could hold regular elections on January 26th, 2, 9th or 16th.
