France raises indictment against Telegram chief Pavel Durov

French judicial authorities have filed preliminary charges against the founder of the telegram, Pavel Durov, for a series of crimes, including co-operation in distributing child pornography, illegal drugs and software hackers in the EEAP, a major blow to an entrepreneur who became a hero for internet freedoms over the decade [...]
Authorities also accused Durov of refusing to co-operate with investigations of illegal activity in the telegram. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau cited “as an almost complete lack of response from Telegram to judicial requirements”, reports W SJ broadcasts Clancosova.
“Telegraph”, meanwhile, says French judicial officials claimed the 39-year-old was an accomplice in a number of illegal transactions.
It has been claimed that its platform is used for material sexual abuse of children and drug trafficking, charges he denies. The telegram is also accused of refusing to share information or documents with investigators when required by law.
Some of the charges face sentences of 10 years in prison and 500,000 euros in fines.
Duroy, a French citizen who has always presented himself as a champion of free speech, has always denied any wrongdoing.
He was arrested last Saturday at Le Bougatet Airport outside Paris. At the time, his arrest triggered protests among the Telegram users.
On Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron, the French president, wrote on X (former-Twitter) that he had seen false information after Durov's arrest.
