Ruge stressed NATO's continued presence and engagement in the region, saying that “Balkan is on NATO radar and we are not going anywhere”.
Ruge said the purpose of his visit was to meet with political leaders in Pristina, Sarajevo and Belgrade, to assess the political situation and reaffirm NATO's presence and partnership in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
He stressed NATO's role in maintaining stability in Kosovo, as he also showed the message he delivered to Serbia's president, Allexander Vuciq.
“Dhuna in Kosovo in May and September last year was an important part of the conversation I had with President Vuciq. We are looking for full responsibility for the attacks on our soldiers, for last September's events in Banjska. This was a point my boss, Secretary General Stoltenberg, and I repeated it to President Vuciq. This is something we want to go to the end of”, he said in an interview for N1 in BiH.
Asked what Vuciqi has said about the issue of attacks on NATO soldiers in Kosovo, Ruge said: “Paj, (he told us) that we can expect to see the continuation of the judicial process in Serbia”.

We still have a military operation with about 5,000 soldiers in Kosovo. Our role is to ensure a safe environment, to work with the Kosovo Police, with EULEX, and this is still an important task aimed at fulfilling”, Ruge said.
He said that with Serbia, NATO has partnerships now and several years, but added that they want Serbia to play a positive role even in Bosnia.
“NATO is here, it's part of this region, we have presence in Bosnia, Kosovo, we have relations with Serbia, and we're following closely what's going on here”.

Assistant Secretary - General NATO said the North Atlantic Alliance does not want to speak for “secession”, while adding that they are very focused on preserving Bosnia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
