European Union Ambassador to Kosovo Thomas Szunyog, at the end of the mandate, has spoken about the punitive measures the EU has imposed on Kosovo. For removing them, he has stated that there must be reconciliation from all 27 member states.
Szunyog has said these measures have been imposed in response to the events in Zvecan and the attack on KFOR members last year.
The one thing is that these measures have been taken in response to the events in Zvecan on May 29th (2023) and the attack against KFOR. So I think it's obvious that this was a really serious crisis and a serious situation and we felt we should react. Therefore, in fact 27 member states agreed to the June 3rd” declaration, he has said.
For removing them, he has stated that there must be reconciliation from all 27 member states. Szunyog has said a discussion is under way among states, adding that he hopes there will be an agreement soon.
“I don't know where this voting and failure comes from, but this statement was clearly accepted by 27 member states. The second thing is that the same certainly applies to the eventual removal of the masses. This must be approved by 27 member states. A discussion is under way among 27 member states and I hope that soon you will find agreement on this. But again, our positions on this were very clear and it is the attitude of 27 member states from the beginning, and it would end with the common position of 27 member states”, Szunyog has declared in an interview for the EO.
