Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic, said Friday that Faton Hajrizi, the suspect in the murder of a police officer in Serbia in the early hours Thursday, has been killed. Now the question is how the Serbian state will deal with the victim's corpse.
Lawyer Arber Jashari has said there is no obstacle that Faton Hajrizi's body will be returned to the family for burial procedures.
This issue is also regulated by Serbia's laws, but also with international rates for the return of its body to Kosovo. Body returns procedures can also be done privately if it is not performed by state ceremonies”, Jashari said at RTV Duguagjini.
Jashar says even the international factor can react to the return of Hajriz's body to Kosovo.
This is a humanitarian and human right for the family to have the body of the deceased being buried according to local traditions. So I don't see any obstacles in this direction”.
Security expert Hysen Gecaj said the current situation is unpleasant even to the fact that Kosovo and Serbia are familiar with each other and that extradition of Hajriz's corpse will have other implications.
This situation is not uncommon for the meal that Serbia and Kosovo are familiar with each other, and the extradition of Faton Hajriz's corpse will also have other complications, most likely to use third parties to reach a compromise for the return of Faton's corpse to the homeland”, he told Klan Kosovo.
Authorities in Serbia announced on Friday that the suspect has been killed in the murder of a Serb police officer and another person wounded a day earlier in Loznica, west of Serbia near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that “police participants killed the suspect in the vicinity of Loznica” after he refused to surrender and fired on the rule forces, which since yesterday had been seeking him.
Serbian authorities gave no more details, while family members said Faton Hajrizi was the murdered one.
Earlier in the day, Serbia's Interior Ministry published a photo of Faton Hajriz, who since the beginning of this month was looking for Kosovo authorities after having escaped from a prison in the country.
Authorities in Kosovo have called for the case not to be given political overtones, while the Kosovo Foreign Ministry asked Serbian authorities “to confirm the identity of the slain person”.
