Bekim Kupina, media adviser to President Vjosa Osmani, has said Kosovo citizens are hurt by the EU Council's decision to citizens with Serbian passports to be allowed visa-free flow.
According to him, the involvement of Serbs with illegal passports issued in Kosovo harms Kosovo and its multiethnic character, but also the European Union itself.
He has indicated that this decision sabotages the process of integrating the Serb community in Kosovo and negatively affects the extent of rule of law.
“Legislation of these illegal passports from the EU sabotages the process of integrating the Serb community in Kosovo, particularly in a period when a large number of citizens of Serbian ethnicity in Kosovo were being equipped with passports from the Republic of Kosovo. Also, this decision negatively affects the extent of rule of law throughout Kosovo and all its citizens. Moreover, these documents containing unverified information can be delivered by persons who can directly affect order and security even in the EU”, Cupina has indicated.
He has suggested that Kosovo does not take responsibility for violations that “barters of these illegal documents can do in the Schengen” area. According to Osman's adviser, the EU decision supports Serbia's illegal structures and presence in Kosovo.
Kosovo has not been consulted at all on this decision, although our institutions have repeatedly sent our arguments why this decision is harmful. This EU decision, legally unmet in Kosovo, so its consequences cannot be taken by Kosovo and its institutions, as well as legal and political responsibility, the right of freedom of movement must always exist, but not contrary to the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as our efforts and commitment to rule of law in every corner of Kosovo”, Kupina has stressed.
