PDK: EU visa decision with illegal Serbian harmful passports, government failed to protect state interest

The deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Mimoza Ahmetaj, has expressed disappointment over the decision to liberalise visas of Kosovo Serb citizens who possess passports issued by Serbian illegal institutions, respectively, by Serbia's Co-ordination Directorate. Ahmetaj, at a media conference, said this decision that questions sovereignty [...]
Ahmetaj, at a media conference, said that this decision that questions Kosovo's sovereignty and only promotes the action of Serbian illegal pre-law structures is the result of Kurti government's inability.
“The PDK has expected the European Union to support Kosovo in its goal of integrating Kosovo Serbs within the legitimate institutions of our state, so that they can equip with official Kosovo documents. This decision only contributes to the distance of Kosovo Serbs and encourages them not to become an integral part of our society and state. However, even this international decision that comes as a consequence for Kosovo today had a local cause: Government of Kosovo! Since the first day of government, the current government has had a non-serious approach to our dialogue and allies. This Government has shown inadequacy and no deep responsibility in its actions and inactions in foreign policy, through which it is proven today that it has also harmed our country's interests”, she said.
Ahmetaj stressed that Kurti Government has not reacted in time, and has not insisted enough to respect the agreement reached in the dialogue on Free Movement.
“The wrong policies of this Government, which are always reactive but never active, have failed to protect in any case the interests of our country, nor to push ahead of the Kosovo statehood and consolidation agenda. Our government, unfortunately, has not yet realised that their poor comments within four walls in Pristina are deaf in European Union Institutions”, Ahmetaj added.
The PDK estimates that this EU decision and this approach of the Government reconfirm the Kurti Government is the structure in Pristina that has zero communication with international partners and allies, that it has closed Kosovo's communications and trust lines worldwide, as well as isolated Kosovo.
These decisions do not contribute to normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia. Instead, they violate Kosovo's territorial and institutional integrity and send other messages, which, instead of promoting stability, further boosting Serbia's vulnerable policies towards Kosovo in particular, the Balkans in general. 14 years ago, when the International Court of Justice sealed Kosovo's declaration of independence, the entire democratic world was with Kosovo and its right to state. Today, 14 years later, under the irresponsible and unseen leadership of this government, the world has left us, and Kosovo is heading towards losing significant momentum for integration and development”, Ahmetaj said.
Likewise, Deputy Mayor Ahmetaj has strongly condemned the successive attacks being carried out by this power to free media and journalists.
This is unacceptable and we ask that these undemocratic tendencies of the government against you immediately stop. Free speech is the prerequisite of a democratic state that cannot be violated by anyone”, she said.
