Turner is a strong supporter of Ukraine, a state facing a full-scale invasion launched by Russia in 2022. He served as British Defence Secretary before becoming the deputy NATO secretary-general for defence and planning policies, which he held from 2018 to 2022.
According to the announcement, Turner will begin his post in Kiev in September of this year.
