Nagavci accused of misusing textbooks by opposition deputies

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Arberie Nagavci has been accused by opposition deputies of misusing textbooks during a session of the Parliamentary Investigative Commission for the process of subsidising textbooks and teaching tools for primary and lower middle education students for 2023/2024.

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP (PDK), Ardian Kastrati, accused the minister of favouring the Serbian publishing house “Albas” for textbooks that, according to him, have not met the required criteria.

You said 11m euros were spent compared to previous expenses, when there were more students and fewer expenses. Is such corruption considered? The prices are now higher, didn't you agree on about 5 million while now costs double or triple more?

Minister Nagavci responded to the charges, saying that:“I never stole. I'm never a thief yesterday. She stressed that for any payment execution there have been verifications by the relevant ministries and banks.

Nagavci also stated that any suspected cases of misuse have addressed the competent organs.

I was right, I addressed facts, I didn't slander, I didn't say something that I didn't even know,”

During the discussion, it was cited that Nagavci has written several books for the publishing house “Albas”, which after the arrival of the ruling Vetevendosje Movement has won several tenders from the Ministry of Education.

The publishing house “Albas” has acquired the right to distribute books for schools in Presevo Valley, worth 221 thousand 314 euros, and is expected to receive 254 thousand and 562 euros and 30 cents for textbooks during 2023.

It is not clear how this publishing house was chosen to take on the role of book distributor and whether there were procurement procedures.
