Warnings of Kosovo state institutions of new attacks in the country's north from Serbia have paved the need for a peace treaty between Kosovo and Serbia.
Defence Minister Ejup Maceddonci said such an idea would have to be the key point in the process of dialogue in Brussels.
A key Kosovo prime minister's demands that a peace treaty, or nonattack between the two countries, be introduced before the dialogue is introduced. I appreciate that this should remain one of the points that must be discussed before it starts deciding on other issues within the” dialogue, Macedonia told Rtv21.
In June 2021, Prime Minister Albin Kurti submitted four proposals for continuing talks with Serbia, including the idea of a peace treaty through which the parties would pledge they would not attack each other. But, Security Commission member Rashit Qalaj from PDK ranks, opposes this idea of government officials saying such an idea is harmful to Kosovo. According to him, an agreement with mutual recognition would be the right solution.
This government has definitely lost the compass. With whom will I make a treaty of peace, with those who have killed children in the cradle, and with those who have violated young women, and with those who have killed them and have burned dead bodies, with those who have yet to destroy the bodies of the dead. This is a harmful, unacceptable act that must be judged a lot by all”, Qalaj said.
Leaders of Kosovo institutions have recently shown concern that Serbian armed groups over the border with Kosovo are making preparations for new attacks in the north. The government has demanded from Serbia surrender to Kosovo's justice bodies organiser of terrorist attacks Milan Radojicic.
