The sources from the prison directorate confirmed to Top Channel that permission has been approved for him to travel and take the oath because there is no legal obstacle now that has received a firm form penalty.
Beler is expected to travel to Strasbourg on Monday.
This is an unprecedented case when a firm-shaped convict will have to leave his cell from an Albanian prison, travel abroad.
It will be the commission of permits at the General Directorate of Prisons, which will decide on travel safety modalities.
Whether Beler will be accompanied by Albanian prison police officers or the Strasbourg police will host him at the airport and again take him to the airport for return to Albania, this has not yet been decided.
In the recent elections for the European Parliament, Fredie Beler was among the winners from the candidate list of the Party's <x0 eurodeputs> New Democracy “of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Beler has received 237 thousand votes, the fourth most voted eurodeput in the Hellen state, while the fourth is also resulting in the list of 7 MPs coming out of the New Democracy party's list.
Like any other eurodeputs, from July 16th to July 19th, Beler must be physically in Brussels to take the oath.
The Special Court for Corruption and Organised Crime in Albania decided on March 5th to declare it guilty of active corruption in the election to be the elected mayor of the municipalities of Himara, Fred Beler, and sentenced him to 2 years in prison. The accused as his associate, Pandeli Cocaveshi, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, a move that was suspended and put in trial service for three years.
Beler and Cocoveshi were arrested on the order of the Vlora Prosecutor in the early morning hours of May 12th 2023, just two days before the date he was to be voted to elect the new mayors. According to the prosecution's body, it turns out the defendant Beler has offered between 50 euros and eight votes. Beler was also accused of giving money through the other defendants, Pandeli Cocaveshi.
Beler was the coalition candidate “Baska we win” in front of Himara Socialist Mayor Jordgo Goro, who was competing for his fourth term. Although arrested, Beler was declared the winner of the May 14th elections for Himara. /tch/
