EU moves ministers' meeting from Budapest to Brussels

The European Union will hold the upcoming meeting of foreign and defence ministers in Brussels, instead of in Budapest, as a <x0bolistic “throw to Hungary for its separate diplomacy in terms of Ukraine, said the bloc's diplomacy chief, Josep Borrell. The change of location for the August 28th-30th meeting poses a blow to Hungary's reputation, which weeks ago took over the presidency of the European Union.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban angered almost all of his EU partners after he paid a visit to Moscow, where he discussed a possible way to end Russia's fight against Ukraine.
Orban ) who is the closest ally that Russian President Vladimir Putin has in the EU has accused the EU of having <x0-political pro-war”, continuing military and financial support for Kiev.
“I can say that all member states except one state are concerned with this behavior”, Borrell said after chairing the gathering of foreign ministers in Brussels.
It's Putin who's part of the war. The only one who provokes Putin is Putin, he is demanding the division of Ukraine and sets preconditions for any conversation, and for any ceasefire”, he said.
The position of the Orban government “must face certain consequences. As a result, “ne sent a signal, even if it is a symbolic signal” to Hungary, Borrell said.
Therefore, he said the next meeting of foreign and defence ministers would be held in Brussels.
Borrell said that almost all of Hungary's EU partners during a meeting held Tuesday criticised by Orban, which he has called the “Peace Commission”.
Slovakia alone has supported Hungary's stance.
“We fully support Hungary's peace initiative”, said Slovakia's Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok, as he was entering another EU meeting held Monday.
