This became known on July 14th, after a day earlier some media in Montenegro, which was called to sources from the security sector, announced that a criminal group from the region was preparing to kill Djukanovic and that the former Montenegrin president had been informed of it by an unidentified member of foreign services.

Opposition Democratic Party of Socialists Chairman Danijel Zivovic is the only one who has officially announced that this party “is aware of details of the preparation for the possible murder of former Montenegro President Milo Djukanovic”.
He thus declared at a press conference on July 13th, responding to a media reporter's question that a Djukanovic assassination was being prepared.
We have knowledge of details and we know what this is about. It's not up to us to communicate our information. I believe the ANB and other competent institutions will come up with precise data”, Zivovic said.
Referring to unofficial information from published media, Zivovic said Djukanovic was warned about it from foreign intelligence agencies' districts, but did not want to elaborate.
Referring to unidentified sources, part of the media in Montenegro have received confirmation that the ANB has received <x0 operational information “for preparing Djukanovic's murder.
In this case, Radio Free Europe asked ANB if it has received a serious operational “that an organised criminal group is preparing to kill Djukanovici”, as the media reports. This institution did not respond.
The REL has also sent a question to the former president's office if it is true that he has announced the competent information bodies that he is preparing an assassination. The answer didn't come from that address either.
In the first police statement issued on 13 July, she said she was unaware of the information about preparing Djukanovic's assassination.
In the latest announcement, police explain that at the time of media reports on preparing the assassination, “ANB was co-operating internationally to verify that information”.
“While the procedure for determining facts and relevant circumstances, including their credibility, is ongoing, the decision has been made to strengthen security measures for the former Montenegrin president for preventive reasons”.
Albania's former president, Ilir Meta, has responded to news planning Milo Djukanovic's assassination, saying this information is very disturbing for peace and stability in these areas.
Milo Djukanovic is the founder and leader of the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists in Montenegro for three decades.
His party lost its 2020 elections, and following the loss of the 2023 presidential election by Jakov Milatovic, Djukanovic withdrew from politics.
After that was held his party congress, where the new chairman was elected Danijel Zivkoviq.
