Former Kosovo Radio Television Director Shkumbin Ahmetxekaj has said his resignation from this position had nothing to do with personal will but was the result of political pressure.
During the interview in Rubik, Ahmetxekaj said this political pressure meant “or dismissal or resignation”.
He has even indicated that the day he was called by the board to discuss the emergency issue, it was announced just two hours before the meeting, contrary to regulations.
My resignation was not a personal will. There was some kind of pressure that means; either I would be fired or quit. On May 23rd, an extraordinary meeting has taken place on the board. Meetings with the board are usually warned 2 or 3 days earlier, but on that day I was invited to an extraordinary meeting to discuss the emergency issue two hours before the board assembled. This is contrary to regulations because it cannot be invited to the director 2 hours earlier at a meeting to discuss some remarks given in the director General's annual work report. So the meeting as such had no legal basis. All the time, I've been on board all the meetings he's invited. Day, night, weekend. Never been. By January 19th, when I was appointed the chief of general's office, I and many others in RTK have seen as a good opportunity that will finally advance public broadcaster. So we can reform it, we can return it to the public what we protested in 2015. The reason I accepted this position was the hope that together with my team we could bring back RTK where he deserves”, he said.
