Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is not a priority for the West, this is due to global events. So declares politician Nenad Canak.
However, it explains that the process has yielded specific results. He thinks the situation has drastically changed since last year, and stresses that Serbia already recognises Kosovo many elements of citizenship. IDs or license plates are some of them.
There is progress because just over a year and a half ago there has been war due to Kosovo plates, today is no longer a problem. Kosovo documents are known. Since this is all known, you have a step-by-step recognition of Kosovo in small parts. Serbia, like what is today, can never accept only one thing, it is that it has recognised Kosovo. Because she cannot accept that she has recognised Kosovo, every other word comes into play, except for recognition of”, said Canak, former member of the Social Democrat League of Vojvodina.
Currently, in Belgrade it is believed to have a political vacuum caused by elections in Great Britain, France and the US. This enables strengthening opponents to normalise relations between the two countries.
Ivan Videnovic, professor at the University of Belgrade, says the German-French plan from which the Ohrid Agreement was established should be revitalised and turned into focus.
“I think a step has been taken back because the obligations of both sides have been postponed over the implementation of the Association and the fulfillment of Serbia's obligations regarding Kosovo's failure to oppose membership in international organisations. That's why the German-French plan from which the Ohrid Agreement was born should be revistalled and turned into a focus”, Videnovic said.
However, there are many expectations from the dialogue that the normalisation issue will turn into a spotlight with a new administration in Brussels. This, in order to avoid potential instability. /rtk
