US President Joe Biden interrupted the weekend and the election campaign, returning to Washington urgently after the assassination against Donald Trump. The White House said in a statement that “President Biden will leave his beach house in Rehoboth for Washington on Saturday evening”.
President Joe Biden condemned the attack on Trump, stressing that “all must condemn” the alleged assassination of the former president and added he hopes to speak with his rival soon.
Addressing the country about two hours after the event, Beden said he felt relieved that according to reports Trump “is fine”. He added that he had failed to speak to former President Trump before making comments before the country and vowed to inform the public if he can talk to him and if he gets additional details about the investigation.
We cannot allow such things to happen. The idea that violence of this kind can happen in America is incredible”.
President Biden said he was awaiting additional information before formally calling the attack an assassination attempt against the former president. I have my opinion, but I have no evidence,” he told reporters, pledging to provide additional information when he gets it.
The president spoke from the coastal town of Rehoboth of the state of Delauera, where he was spending the weekend.
Beden received “initial information” from his advisers after the shooting and later gathered security officials for a more detailed update by Kimberly Cheatle, United States Secret Service Director Alejandro Mayorkas National Security Secretary and White House Security Adviser Liz Sherwood-Randra.
After the incident, Biden's campaign said it was stopping all messages for his supporters and that it would attract all television ads.
Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement that she too was informed, adding that she and her husband “felt relieved” that Mr Trump was not seriously injured.
“We pray for him, his family and all those who are hurt and affected by this meaningless attack,” she said. /balkanweb/
