Former RTK General Director Shkumbin Ahmetxheekaj said there has been great political pressure on his dismissal.
Ahmetjekaj said the pressure had been initiated by the country's own prime minister, Albin Kurti.
My “assistant has informed me that we have had a request for a meeting with Kosovo's prime minister in office, dated December 3, 2023. It was Sunday. With Prime Minister Kurti not that we met personally, we have met in interviews with foreign media, but since the election we have never had contact and I think that for the first time, a General Director has had no direct contact with the prime ministers”, Ahmetxekaj said in Rubikon of Kosovo.
Ahmetjekaj said that the invitation for meeting with the prime minister had responded positively, believing that at the meeting it would be discussed the possibility of increasing RTK's budget, but in fact Kurti had sought a change in public television management, with which it meant Ahmetjekaj's departure from the location of RTK General Director.
I was convinced that it's time for RTK to be given an additional budget and I said unfortunately RTK currently has the government budget, even though it would have to stem from the Kosovo Assembly, my conviction was that at this meeting I was getting invited to further clear the plan of why RTK should have an additional budget. Kurt acknowledged that there was a change in RTK, but he thought there must be a much deeper change, elaborized the changes, was informed of the reform I had introduced aboard, and at a certain moment Kurti said the time has come for new changes in management, because, according to him, the moment had come for a new momentum of RTK's development and in some form told me that I would probably be good for representation of Kosovo, where he mentioned it as the”, Ahmetxekaj said.
On the other hand, former RTK General Director said that the day after meeting with Prime Minister Kurti was invited to a meeting by Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Hajrula Ceku, who wanted to make sure Ahmetxekaj understood the executive chief's message.
“We discussed the meeting of the day before what we understood, namely what would make me resign from the position of the General Director, because it is a general will to change RTK's management, have new directors and for RTK to advance away with anyone”, Ahmetxekaj said.
