On the first Thursday of February of last year, Bujar Mehmet will never forget. At the time, only 20 years old, he received an offer to start medical doctorate studies in the United States.

Although he himself had applied to two American universities, he expected the process until the final selection to last at least half of April.

“was a nearly two-hour interview and we talked about different topics. At the end of the interview, the professor has decided to offer me an assistant's position and has told me that he wants me to be part of his” lab, says Bujar, from the village of Babush of the Lipjan Muhajer, for Radio Free Europe.

The offer was unexpected, but Mehmet did not need much time to decide. He told “po” that day Wisconsin-Madison University, he announced to the next American university that he was withdrawing from the race, and a few months later he left for the US.

This university, especially for scientific research in this area, is perfect. The department's budget is nearly $1.8 billion. Furthermore, doctorate is a long journey and it's important that you like what you're going to investigate”, the 22-year-old adds.

Brad has been told that he is the youngest person ever to be admitted to a doctorate studies in this department. According to Academia Insider, the average age of doctoral students in the United States is 31.5 years old.

But even though he was only 20 when he received the offer, he had enough experience to persuade his professor. And in the United States, students are allowed to switch from a basic level to a doctorate. Universitys award their master's degree to these students on their way to their doctoral degree.

During his high school studies in Hungary, he had been an outstanding student, including in university student representation. In international science contests in the US, Great Britain and other countries, he had represented Kosovo and had returned with medals.

During his studies in Hungary, he had experimented with magnetic metal particles and equations of how these particles can be used to treat cancer.

In him, Bujar says that his professor had seen someone who has knowledge of physics and passion to apply those knowledge to society.

“He has seen my purpose and is somehow part of that dream of mine and my”, says Bujar.

Thus, after graduating from Hungary late August of that year, Bujar left for Madison, U.S.A. He remembers the unusual heat in his early days, the meetings with his new colleagues and his professor, but there is another meeting that remains more in his mind.

When I entered the department and saw the equipment... it was kind of a friend. It's the most advanced science equipment in medical physics. It's millions of tools you can work on, you got it in your hands”, he shows.

Currently, Brad is engaged in a project aimed at bringing a new method of medical photography.

More than the goal of easing radiologues, it motivates the goal of facilitating patients ' lives by exposing them to a lower level of radiation.

The desire to make a difference for good had moved Brad to take an interest in medical and physical sciences from an early age.

I just, you know, wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, the goal is to work for the good of society. I hope my achievements will affect improving the lives of cancer patients or other diseases, through devices that function or invent”, Brad says.

The Nobel Prize says it has the same dream as any young man who enters this field, but his dreams often turn him into Kosovo.

“I hope that I will be able to contribute to Kosovo as well as to launch co-operation with American companies that can donate their equipment to public hospitals in Kosovo, whether through connection of co-operation between the University of Pristina and universities here”, Bujar says.

In the first two decades of his life, Bujar has listed a number of achievements. It is also part of the leadership of the Kosovo Astronomous Ocean Club, which opened the first National Planetarium in Kosovo a month ago.

Amid achievements and goals, however, one thing makes him happier.

My parents made me proud and happy. It's not the intention of them coming out and saying that Bujar has achieved something, but I just know I'm on a straight path and I know I'm doing something good when I know they're happy with the path I've chosen”, he ends up.
