Over 213 thousand Albanians received EU country citizenship in 5 years

While referring to Eurostat data, over 213 thousand Albanians gained citizenship for a European Union country for the past five years.
According to the annual report on migration and asylum in Europe, 6920 Albanians applied for the first time for asylum during 2023 in a European Union country.
Albanians top the list of Western Balkan countries in 2023 for the number of asylum seekers in Europe, and five in Europe after Turks, Georgians, Russians and Ukrainians.
Meanwhile, according to the report, Albanian citizens rank second in Europe after Ukrainians in the number of European Union entry failures during 2023.
Some 13855 Albanian citizens, who make up 11.6% of the rejections, follow up to 18330 citizens from Ukraine who were refused entry into the European Union last year.
According to the report, Albanians rank second after the Georgians even for the high number of voluntary or imposed returns from a European country to a third country during 2023.
According to the 7870 Albanian nationals, who make up 8.5% of returns, followed 10 390 Georgians who top the list of countries for forced returns of irregular migrants from European countries.
Meanwhile, the report on migration and asylum says around 76 thousand Albanians have been counted in obtaining new permits or a legal status stay during 2023 in European Union countries.
The report does not include the migration of Albanians to Great Britain, which emerged from the European Union.
During 2022 alone, according to British authorities 12658 immigrants from Albania were irregularly introduced to Great Britain, mainly from the English Channel in small boats.
British data on September 2022 é September 2023 shows that Great Britain experienced a significant increase in the forced returns of foreign citizens who reached 5,506 persons, out of whom Albanians make up over half (52%) of forced returns. / VOA/
