Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has posted a provocative video from his holiday in the wake of last night's victory in local elections. His son Danilo is seen singing nationalist songs to Kosovo.
In the video published by Vuciq, there is a happy group sitting at a table with plenty of food. The collections sing the song “I am the boy from Kosovo”.
“I was born down there, where my dreams flow, I am a boy from Kosovo, I am proud of him, I was born there, there will I remain, O bozhur, o symbol, the fields of Kosovo”, it says in the text.
My son Danilo and my brothers, long live Serbia”, wrote Vuciq.
Local elections were held in 89 cities and municipalities. Lists about the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won in Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad.
All SNS lists and its coalition partners in the local elections bore the name of Serbia's President “Aleksandar Vuciq Serbia tomorrow”, which the opposition saw as misuse and conflict of interest, since the Constitution defines the head of state as president of all citizens.
Local elections in Serbia were repeated after those in December following allegations of vote theft and unable to establish a city assembly, and part of the opposition boycotted yesterday's elections. Election day was marked with incidents at polling stations -- from the SNS call centre, tear gas, clashes to the payment of citizens to vote for the SNS and bring people to polling stations by bus.
