Swiss take the next step in technology, target artificial brain creation

In the final demonstration of nature's efficiency, a Swiss group has just launched a biocomputer that connects with brain pulse cells and, according to its creators, uses much less energy than traditional computers.

Brain cells are grouped together to form organoids, which are placed in electrodes - related verses. In the meantime, the human brain uses 86 billion of its neurons using only one piece of that energy - just 0.3 kilowatt hours a day. Technology trends also show that the thriving artificial intelligence industry will consume 3.5 percent of global electricity by 2030.

The IT industry as a whole is already responsible for about two percent of global carbon dioxide emissions, so it is increasingly necessary to find ways to make the most efficient calculations in energy and synergies between brain cell networks and computer circuits are a visible parallel to exploring, foreign media write.

FinalSpark is not the first company to try to connect probes with biological systems or to try to faithfully program nerve networks to carry out specific access to command functions. The subject was also discussed by researchers in America who in 2023 built a bioprocessor that connected computer devices with brain organoids, and the system learned to recognize speech patterns.

While the ultimate goal may be a new computer approach with energy efficiency, for now the system is being used to allow researchers to conduct long experiments on brain organoids, like its predecessors. However, there are some improvements: The finalSpark team says researchers can connect to its remote system and mini-body can be maintained for up to 100 days, with measured electrical activity throughout the hour.
