Slovenia, as the world's 147th country, officially recognised Palestine as an independent and sovereign state. They hung the Palestinian flag in front of parliament.
After hearings at the National Assembly, Slovenia officially recognized Palestine. The recognition was supported by 52 deputies.
Slovenia's Prime Minister Robert Golob, through social networks, announced that Palestine's modern-day <x0) recognition as a sovereign and independent state sends hope to Palestinian people in the West Coast and to Gaza”.
Thus, Slovenians have followed in the footsteps of Spain, Ireland, and Norway, which eventually did the same.
Slovenia thus became the 147th member of the United Nations to recognise Palestine.
The largest Slovenian opposition parliamentary group, the SDS, had submitted a new proposal today for the declaration of a consultative referendum on recognition of Palestine's independence and sovereignty.
As SDS chairman Janez Jansha has explained at the meeting, the first proposal has been drawn for technical reasons.
