Germany's Ambassador Jorn Rohde has estimated that 25 years after his liberation, Kosovo is Western success history.
Rohde, at <x0X”, has written that Germany remains one of Kosovo's closest partners.
“Today 25 years ago, the NATO mission began. To quote former NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson the goal was to evacuate Milosevic's forces, NATO entry and refugee returns. Mission accomplished. Kosovo declared independence in 2008 and is a success story. Germany is and remains among Kosovo's closest partners”, he has written.
Otherwise, today [June 12th] on June, Kosovo marks the 25th anniversary of Freedom Day.
The quarter earlier, NATO peacekeeping troops entered Kosovo following bombings against Serbian military and police targets in Kosovo and Serbia. On the 25th anniversary, there will be several ceremonies, including the parade of the Kosovo Security Force and Police in the square.
The attacks on Serbian infrastructure began on 24 March and lasted until June 10th 1999. During the 78-day campaign, planes from 13 NATO member states made 38 thousand and 400 flights, out of which 10 thousand and 484 flights were made. A total of 26 thousand and 614 projectiles were dumped.
The air bombing campaign against Yugoslavia was meant to stop the Serbian campaign for ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo.
