KMDLNj: arrest of Tefik Mehmet, Serbia's revanstism

Days ago, at the border crossing in Merdara, Serbian police arrested Tefik Mehmeti under war crimes suspicion in 1999. Exactly, Tefik Mehmeti is suspected by Serbian authorities that on 19 June 1999, in the Gjilan {Kamenica highway, he has detained three Serb policemen, always according to Serbian authorities, as a KLA soldier. And the Council [...]
E The Human Rights Protection Council has reacted in this regard.
“Rasti has been handed over to Serbia's war crimes prosecutor. Following the arrest was a largely political response to Kosovo institutions, though so far they have not taken any action to inform Kosovo's citizens of the risk of having passed through Serbia for all those who have been part of the war, in any form”, the council's response is said.
“The response of institutions has been automatic, like coral songs, after arrests occurred. Especially for these failures is the MPJD, which has legal and moral responsibilities to deal with seriously these” cases.
KMDLNY, in many public reactions, has asked citizens who could eventually be arrested by Serbian police because of their participation in war or its support not to travel through Serbia as soon as they have many other opportunities.
Albanian citizens under arrest have no opportunity to be visited by human rights organisations, neither from Kosovo nor Serbia, so they lack information about their treatment and human rights, as persons deprived of freedom. They also have problems securing effective legal protection”, the announcement said.
On the other hand, Serbia's citizens held at detention centres and correctional ones are visited without any obstacle by Kosovo authorities, and their treatment is 100% in line with international law and standards for persons deprived of freedom”.
“should create an opportunity for Kosovo citizens currently in Serbia's prisons to be visited by independent monitors, as well as Serbia's citizens held in Kosovo prisons, to be visited by independent monitors”.
“On the contrary will always create an opportunity and space for speculation from the position of political profit. Serbia is exploiting the arrest of Kosovo citizens of Serbian nationality, suspected of war crimes to arrest and mistreat Kosovo Albanians travelling through Serbia”.
KMDLNj has called on Kosovo citizens to avoid travel through Serbia and exploit other roads because Serbia has an unlimited opportunity to devise evidence for their criminalisation.
“under current circumstances, no Albanian travelling through Serbia is certain to be mistreated, fined or deprived of freedom. Then, although they have not committed any criminal acts, they must spend tens of tens and tens of thousands of euros to regain their freedom or pay their bail”.
