In this complex and dangerous world, Kosovo needs powerful friends and they must be respected”, Joseph told the Voice of America.
Joseph says NATO membership should be Kosovo's main goal and to ease the attitudes of Greece, Slovakia, Spain and Romania, four NATO member states that do not recognise its independence, he says Kosovo must meet its obligations.
Kosovo, according to him, needs through some “actions around the association to create a context, a platform so that the United States can lobby to non-recognition states.” Countries like Greece, he adds, want “a positive atmosphere within Kosovo in relation to Kosovo Serbs” to move towards recognition.
“The government and Prime Minister Kurti have the chance to tell everyone, not through words, but through works, that Serb residents are considered citizens of Kosovo, who have legitimate concerns... Joseph says Kosovo and its allies should focus on establishing a path to Kosovo's NATO membership as a permanent solution to tensions with Serbia.
“Russia and China could no longer influence Serbia and there would be no blockade... It would completely change dynamics, change the situation within Serbia, because it could not use Kosovo to destabilise the” region, He adds.
