UN: Israel may have violated war laws

Israeli forces may have repeatedly violated the fundamental principles of war laws and failed to take care to protect civilians' lives in their military campaign at the Gaza Strip, the United Nations Office on Human Rights said on Wednesday. The report published today was criticised by Israel, which for nine months is continuing the operation against Hamas. In a report examining six Israeli attacks that caused large numbers of victims and destroyed civil infrastructure, the UN Human Rights Office said Israeli forces “may have systematically violated war laws”, including the principle to distinguish between civilians and fighters, precautions and the degree of force used in the attack.
Israel's permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva wrongly described the findings of this report and the methodology used. The report analyses the details of six incidents that took place between October 7th and December 2nd. The UN had the opportunity to assess weapons, targets and tools used in these attacks.
“We thought it was important to release this report now, especially knowing that they have spent about eight months on some of these attacks and that we have not yet seen reliable and transparent investigations”, says Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Office.
It called on Israeli authorities to launch an investigative process and added that in the absence of a transparent process, international action is necessary. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem there is a two - part delegation of the American Congress led by lawmaker Stany Hoyer.
At the meeting with members of the American-Israel Committee for Public Affairs, Israeli President Isaac Herzeg expressed <x0 ..." ungrateful for the position of the United States along with Israel”, while calling for disputes to be discussed calmly.
We highly appreciate the two-party support exceeding all American society's divisions and conflicts, in our struggle for a free world against the Devil's empire”, says Mr. Herzeg.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that the United States is stopping sending weapons needed for the Gaza war, suggesting that it is slowing down Israel's offensive to the southern town of Rafah.
However, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that only the delivery of several large calibre ammunition has been suspended.
The battle of Israel against Hamas in Gaza is in the ninth month.
Israel's air and ground attack has caused more than 37,400 deaths, according to health authorities on Hamas-controlled territory
The Gaza war began after Hamas' terrorist attack against Israel on 7 October, when about 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 others were taken hostage, according to Israeli data.
