Health insurance bill, opposition sceptical of proceedings for review

The Health Ministry has given no answer if it has finalised and submitted the Health Insurance Bill for approval. This was warned weeks ago by Minister Arben Vitita that it will happen the most distant by the end of June. The opposition is sceptical that the bill will be sent to the Government for approval [...]

When it remains a few months until the end of the mandate, it is still unclear whether the Kurti Government will make it through the promise that health insurance will be regulated by law.

Health Minister Arben Vitita, for delays, argued that unexpected priorities had left the system behind.

But weeks ago he said it was a matter of days when he would proceed to the Government for approval, which then paves the way for discussing it in the Assembly.

But, according to members of the Commission for Health from the opposition, there is little possibility that this will be done.

“A real law, Kosovo does not have until today. The health insurance law has been on legislative agenda since 2021. I think if that law were drafted it would be a implications and we would have health insurance. We don't have law drafted in hand. We've been asking you to come to the commission, Health Minister for something else, but he said that before July 04th he doesn't have time to meet with us, we expect to ask him,” AAK deputy Shemsedin Dresaj said.

Information about how far work has been on this matter is not from the majority.

Only that the chairman of the Commission for Health, Fatmire Kolcak, believes in the minister's promise that by the end of June this bill will be in the hands of MPs.

“According to the Legislative Strategy in June, the Health Insurance Law will be passed, we are still on time. I know he's been in public discussion and then he'll be forwarded from Government to Parliament. We are expecting that, as sent at the beginning of the year legislative strategy, we expect you to come at the end of June,” says LV deputy Fatmire Kolcaku.

Duagjini television has been asking the Ministry of Health for days whether the Health Insurance Bill has been finalised, but they have not returned.
