Hamas said one of her commanders in the occupied West Coast was killed in a clash with Israeli forces.
In a statement issued late Monday, Hamas said Mohammed Jaber Abdo was killed along with three other fighters in a village near Ramallah, where he has the headquarters of the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.
A joint Israeli army and police statement earlier Monday said secret forces had traced a fugitive suspect to an attack on a nearby Jewish settlement, the AP reports.
Violence has increased in the West Coast since the beginning of the Gaza war, which was sparked by Hamas' attack on October 7th in southern Israel.
Over 530 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Coast since then, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Most were killed during violent protests or Israeli arrests that often cause gunfights.
On Monday, the UN Security Council overwhelmingly adopted a US resolution welcoming a proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Israel's battle against Hamas in Gaza has killed more than 36 thousand and 730 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which makes no distinction between fighters and civilians in its count.
Palestinians are facing widespread hunger because war has largely stopped the flow of food, medicine, and other supplies.
UN agencies say over 1 million in Gaza can experience the highest level of hunger by mid-July.
