“There will probably be extremely large tensions”, Darman told RL radio, adding that authorities are preparing for a highly sensitive “ ” situation, as the vote will be held less than a month before the Paris Olympics 2024.
President Emmanuel Macron, who shocked the nation when he announced the decision to disperse the French Parliament earlier this month, does not participate in the elections.
However, these elections are perceived as a referendum on the fate of Macroni, who was once seen as president capable of overcoming political divisions, but his popularity has now fallen behind some political crises.
“
On paper, he sought to present his camp, which in the polls stands behind the extreme right and behind the newly formed leftist alliance as the latest hope for stability.
“I am not blind: I am aware of the democratic crisis”, he added.
Macron also reiterated that he will retain the president's position until his mandate is completed in 2027, despite the election outcome.
On June 9th, Macro dissolved the French Parliament and declared early elections, following the far-right party's big victory in the European Parliament elections.
France will hold early parliamentary elections on 30 June and 7 July.
Polls suggest the right extreme could win. / REL
