At the end of May, MPs voted against the Ombudsman's report for 2022.
People's deputy minister, Niman Hajdari, has told the Online Economy that their reports should be accepted as such and not questioned, however he does not want to interfere with the will of MPs.
“We cannot intervene in the free will of MPs to vote for or against. According to European Commission expertise against intolerance and racism for the organs of equality because the ombudsman is also a organ of equality, the report is preferred or recommended not to be voted but to be accepted as such, since this is an independent constitutional institution, so simply to be accepted as such”, Hajdari told EO.
Hajdari also said that the Ombudsman's institution has long submitted the report to the Assembly, but the legislature is lagging behind with its review.
“For the 2022 report that was sent to the Assembly, which we have submitted within the legal deadline, but the Parliament has only now examined and voted on this report, which is a two-year delay of”, he said.
Shortly after voting against this report, the ombudsman had responded, saying that the DS or KUNR vote does not change, nor does it alter reality and the situation with human rights and freedoms in the country.
“The way the Public Lawyer's Annual Report was discussed at the session of May 23, 2024 makes it sound to answer the concern over the understanding that the legislature has of the Ombudsman's institution, the mandate they exercise, the compatibility of the issues it raises in its daily work, and in the way that it decides to deal with the cases it is proceeding with, whether it is complaints or cases according to official task”, the AP response was said.
